Are you a DIY handyman? Or just like to get your hands dirty around the house? Working on your own gutter system is a good way to keep busy, while also saving some money. Here are some things to keep in mind when working on gutters, including some tools needed.

Gutters themselves are not normally something that we think of unless we just know there is an issue. Which is the first point to consider to prevent future damages. The average gutters that we are used to seeing are made from aluminum and were probably installed along with your roof, or were already there when you purchased your home. It’s very important to remember that a damaged gutter could lead to leads and other issues that could impact your home. Old gutters, especially aluminum, will eventually crack and pull away from the roof. Annual inspection is key to avoid issues ahead of time.

And of course proper cleaning in maintenance will ensure a longer life for your gutters. If you live near trees, you’ll definitely get leaves and other debris on your roof, and eventually in your gutters. A clogged gutter is a potential issue, which can cause water to damage the roof, or overflow and damage the ground and landscaping below. Soil erosion is real, and is one of the main reasons why we have gutters to begin with!

If you’re going to go about installing your own gutters, it’s important to do some research ahead of time. It’s possible to purchase gutters that are the wrong size, which could lead to overload of the water that comes from rain. Especially if you are in an area with heavy thunderstorms.

It may seem obvious, but it’s also possible to hang the gutters incorrectly. Think putting them flush with the roof instead of an inch or so down. You need to know where and how the water flows on your roof, especially if you have multiple levels and pitches. Gutters Tyler TX is a good example of a pro that can do the job right, so it’s always best to lead to the side of caution if you are not 100% ready and capable of installing your own gutters.
